Laying Plans

Sun Tzu, The Art of War:
He who calculates victory before fighting is more likely to achieve victory.
夫未战而庙算胜者,得算多也。
Today we embark upon a journey towards a fuller understanding of the world, a pursuit of that elusive and supreme treasure: wisdom. Just as a general broods in his temple before a battle, we pause for a moment to consider what this project will entail. The sources of wisdom are three, viz.: 1) instruction, 2) contemplation, and 3) experience.

Thus, this blog will consist of three kinds of posts:
  1. Instruction. Readings from various sources.
  2. Contemplation. My thoughts on life.
  3. Experience. Primarily articles and news events, with or without my comments.
The content will be drawn from my reading and experience. I will endeavor to include sources from the several cultures and languages with which I am familiar, as I believe each has its own viewpoint and special value. However, the material will also often have a Catholic bent. This cannot be helped; man cannot be separated between body and soul, and his search for wisdom will be unavailing if separated from God. Initium sapientiae timor Domini. Ecclesiasticus 1:16.
